First graders took part in the 2019 Global Read Aloud. We joined thousands of students across the world as we read picture books written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales. Together we learned that Yuyi immigrated from Mexico to the United States with her two month old son. When writing and illustrating Yuyi draws upon her Mexican heritage for inspiration. As we read her stories, our first graders connected and exchanged bookmarks with students in:
